Tree Rug and Pillow Free Crochet Pattern

This week's pattern could easily be called a Christmas theme pattern, but I think it could work well for every day use especially if you change the colors.

It is called: Tree Rug and Pillow

What give this pattern a bit of punch is the blanket stitch edging I used around each section of the trees and the triangles that edge the rug and the pillow.

Any worsted weight yarn can easily be used in place of the suede yarn the pattern calls for.

Some Of My Favrite Snowmen From Years Pass

This is a Tassel Snowman Ornament.  What I really like about this guy is how easy he is to make.  You just make a hollow snowman and then stuff the tassel in to give him a great wispy look.

Ahhh, Dance Of The Snow People.  I think I'm more in love with the idea that after everyone has gone to bed the all snow people made that wintry day dress up and go to a midnight ball.

Peppermint Snowman At Top A Peppermint Pillow.  He makes a great stand alone decoration.

But my all time favorite has to be these Snowman Faces.  They are so versatile, you'd never get bored playing with these guys!

Peppermint Purse & Scarf Free Crochet Pattern

I wanted to post something more in line with the holiday spirit.  What goes better with Christmas then Red & White & Peppermints?  How about this Peppermint Purse & Scarf set!

Both are made using worsted weight yarn.  You simply carry the unused yarn behind your stitches as you work them so dropping and picking up colors are a breeze.  For those who aren't familiar with the process here is a tutorial I made awhile back that should help illustrate the idea better.

I used a combination of both the yarns to make the fringe on the scarf and this big, chunky tassel at the bottom of the purse.  Feeling more in the holiday spirit yet?

Two Free Vintage Patterns

This week's vintage free pattern is actually 2 patterns.
One is what they called a Ski Sweater.
The second one is for a sleeveless sleeve dress.
Both are done in a worsted weight yarn so it should be easy to find a replacement yarn like from Red Heart or Bernat.

Photo Tutorial on How To Make Interlocking Loop Stitch in Crochet

I just published a tutorial on how to do interlocking loop stitch in crochet.  In this example, cuff bracelet,  (pattern) it was done in stripes so that when looped together the blue loops would be over the red stripes and the red loops over the blue.

In this cuff bracelet (pattern) the loops are every other in color and make nice long lines.

This cuff bracelet (pattern) the loops are made with beads. (slide bead, ch-1).

I don't want you to think this stitch is only for jewelry.  In this example (pattern) the Tab Top Curtains use three colors and the interlocking loops make stripes.

Free Vintage Pattern: Open Crown Hat & Bag

This vintage pattern will have you "styling" with the addition of an Open Crown Hat and matching Bag.
The patterns are crochet and from the middle to late 40's.
If you don't like how floppy a hat and purse can get when made solely of yarn you can line it with buckram.
Buckram is a very heavy, but light weight interfacing used in making hats so they will keep their shape.
It's found at most fabric stores, but you do have to ask for it.

Free Crochet Ornament and Rug Pattern

Here are two new free patterns just in time for your Christmas decorating.  The first one is for the tree.  The ornament was made using size 10 crochet threads and features an indented center like ornaments from holidays past. It measures 3-1/2" across and filled with stuffing or fiber fill.
Make one in a dozen different colors to decorate your tree!
Make them as gifts!
Add them to the bow on a present!

The second pattern is also an ornament but this one was made for the floor!  It's an ornament rug!
The rug features a two-color center that "swirls". It was made using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn and is 24" across.

I hope you enjoy them!

Great Baby Cardigans and Hats Free Vintage Pattern

Here is a great pattern that will work for either a boy or a girl!
I believe the pattern is from the late 50's and features a super cute cardigan in 2 colors as well as a tam style hat, baseball hat, booties and mittens.
Remember with vintage patterns the terms may be a little different that what you are use to, but for the most part they can be figured out.  Also the brands and types of yarns called for may not still be made, but if you pay attention to the weight of the yarn called for you can easily find  a substitute.

Free Vintage Crochet Pattern: Mardi Gras Afghan

The free vintage pattern from my collection is called: "Mardi Gras" Afghan.  It is a simple block afghan that goes together to create a cute color block design with star like inserts.  I really like this one.  You may not realize it by looking at it, but it is a fairly versatile design.
How about dark blue for the background, light blue for the pink and yellow for the star-like inserts to make it look like the night sky.  Add snowflake appliques to the light blue and you have a winter wonderland afgahn!

Black & White Hat, Scarf and Mittens Set Free Crochet Patterns

It's been a long time I know.
I had a bad move to a rural area where power hits killed my hard drive before I found my surge protector.  Thank heavens for back ups!
So many things got mis-laid and probably more are still in boxes.  Yes I did label all the boxes like: Kitchen.  Problem is that was all I put on the boxes that held everything that goes into my kitchen, including food, towels, the junk drawer, etc.  It was 3 days before I found my pots and pans.
Today is my first day to republish my free pattern site after wading through copies of copies that were mirrored in my back up. It is for a HAT, SCARF and MITTENS that are made of blocks of color.
As long as you know how to single crochet, double crochet (my favorite stitch combination for texture) and how to drop and pick up colors you can make this set.
The easiest to make is the scarf.
You could change the colors to match the colors of a favorite football team or how about school colors.  Great way to earn a little extra cash making scarves in your school colors!

There is also a PURSE that can go with the set.
One or all would make nice gifts.

Maybe you could make a HAT for Uncle George, a SCARF for sister Sue, MITTENS for little Sammy and a PURSE  for Aunt Mable!

Wouldn't you just love the look on their faces if they all showed up with their gifts! Especially if you made them all in the same two colors!

Enjoy!

Great Vintage Crochet Pattern For Baby

This vintage crochet pattern is great for baby.  It makes no difference if it is going to be for a boy or a girl, with this pattern you can find something to make.
There are 3 baby jackets, 2 baby bonnets and one bib in this pattern.
I think it is from the late forties.
Always remember with vintage patterns the yarns called for are usually not available so checking for gauge with the yarn you do use is necessary to getting the correct size.

Free Crochet Jewelry Pattern: Mesh Choker

Free Crochet Pattern for this week is a Mesh Choker.
The necklace is made with black size 10 crochet threads and DMC size 5 in gold.  You will also need crystal for the centers of the flowers.
I like to do jewelry patterns, especially necklaces.  They are a fast and often easy project to make.
Right now I'm busy designing my series of 8.  In this series I take a few elements and combine them into 8 stand alone necklaces!
