For a simple looking pattern, it's more complicated then one would think due to the switching of colors. Once you get the hang of swithcing colors you will be able to make so much more when it comes to crochet!
Good Luck!Donna's Crochet Designshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08039420030119153613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38727070.post-75609510068119453982010-12-11T21:32:01.453-08:002010-12-11T21:32:01.453-08:00Thanks so much for responding so promptly. I know...Thanks so much for responding so promptly. I know I didn't do the "carry the stitch" part properly so I will practice that and let you know how it turns out. I've been crocheting since about a week before Christmas, and so far I have made coasters, small flat wreath lapel pins decorated with pom poms and a chain stitch bow, curled wreath ornaments decorated with a chain stitch bow, santa's boots ornament (originally meant to be ice skates), mini mitten, holly and berry magnet, Santa hat lapel pin and magnet, stocking ornament and magnet, and a warm winter cap ornament. It takes me ages to translate the "crochet language" in the patterns, but it is well worth it in the end. Yours is the first one that has me stumped so far. I am determined, though, so I am sure I will get it...eventually! Thanks again for taking the time to respond (and for taking the time to write down and share the pattern in the first place).Marynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38727070.post-36679572998170981992010-12-11T06:52:02.678-08:002010-12-11T06:52:02.678-08:00I know this will seem confusing because you are a ...I know this will seem confusing because you are a beginner, but after you have ended the rnd, sl st, ch-1 and turn, you do not begin the next rnds pattern in what looks like the first stitch, you begin in the second stitch and count it as the first stitch. If you do this the pattern should come out correctly.
Also to carry the unused yarns is to keep it at the top of the next stitch and work it in as you make the next stitch in the pattern.
here is a good photo tutorial to help you visualize what I am trying to say:
http://tutorials.donnascrochetdesigns.com/photo-tutorial-how-to-make-a-check-pattern-in-crochet-pg2.html
Please let me know if this works or if I need to explain further.
DonnaDonna's Crochet Designshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08039420030119153613noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38727070.post-88899030243760121702010-12-10T20:06:08.461-08:002010-12-10T20:06:08.461-08:00I am a beginner at crocheting, and am making ornam...I am a beginner at crocheting, and am making ornaments for the Christmas tree. I have been trying for half the evening and I just can't get my candy to look anything remotely like the picture. I have been working on the small 1" one. The pattern seems to swirl around rather than to come from the center like in your picture. I also am not sure what you mean by "Carry unused yarns behind stitches as you work". Do you mean just hold the yarn out of the way underneath or does it involve lacing it through in some way?Marynoreply@blogger.com
